I got my inspiration for this shelf from one of the german blogs I’m following – hallo montag. And I loved it, because it didn’t needed to be drilled to the wall but is still solid and stays in place. As I have tiles all around me in the bathroom, I’m definitly not going to drill anything in there, so this was perfect!
You can have a look at the inspiring post here.
At first I thought as well I could make my shelf from some driftwood, but then I changed my mind and thougt would be great if it matches my board on the opposite wall in the bathroom – the board I was already showing here.
So this meant, I needed more old planks from wine-crates. I didn’t had anymore, same at my parents home (and I didn’t planned to visit them at that time and I wanted to start this project as soon as possible…). But thank God there’s eBay! So, I ordered a whole batch of already unscrewed planks and got two rack supporters from the DIY market. At first I wanted as well some from IKEA, as shown in the inspiring post, because they’re already white and I wanted a quick project, but now I’m glad that there haven’t been any at IKEA because I love how they turned out!
I started with painting the rack supporters grey and then scumbled them slightly white, scrubbed away some of the white color, sanded the edges and corners… In other words– I did my best to make them look shabby and vintage!
Then it was time to work with the planks.
I sanded all their edges and corners as well, sawed two of them (definitely not more than two because I don’t have an electrical saw…!!), after that I painted them all individually and took some time to arrange the planks in a way they look good together.
At the end I screwed them with help from small metal plates together.
And the I got this as a result.
YAY!
Here are two detail-shots:
Here’s a small UPDATE.

I love it! The blue edges are perfectly unperfect.

Hehe, ja, ich spreche Deutsch – als Muttersprache ;)
Aber ich lese fast nur englische Blogs (und hab einige Zeit im Ausland verbracht) und hab dann deswegen selbst angefangen auf englisch zu bloggen!

How did you adhere the rack supporters to the wall?

Oh, I didn’t!
They are just stucked between heater and wall – and they hold perfectly like this!
