More storage in the smallest hallway

My hallway is not small. I’t teeny tiny! If you look here on the floorplan, you maybe can imagine how tiny it is. It’s something between 2-3 square-meters, which is ~21-32 square-feet. I said it’s tiny!
(And, as you can see on the plan as well, the hallway has no window, so please excuse the bad pictures! I know, they aren’t my best!)

Mein Flur ist nicht klein. Er ist WINZIG! Irgendwas zwischen 2 und 3 Quadratmetern. Mithilfe des Planes hier könnt ihr euch das vielleicht besser vorstellen.
(Und, wie ihr auch auf dem Plan sehen könnt, hat der Flur kein Fenster, also entschuldigt bitte die Bilder! Ich weiß, dass es nicht die besten sind!)

Apartments here in Hamburg are incredibly expensive, so there is no way I get a bigger one here some day. Which means, I need to be creative, if I want to store all my stuff. And my flatmate’s stuff…
Both, me and my flatmate read a lot. And we need a lot of books for our studies. We already stored some books, we don’t use regularly in the attic, but there are still a lot left. Luckily we live in an older apartment (I talked about it here), which means, we have a bit more higher ceilings than usual. So, if we can’t expand storage in the width and on the floor – we can expand in the height!

Wohnungen hier in Hamburg sind UNGLAUBLICH teuer, es wird also niemals dazu kommen, dass ich hier eine größere Wohnung bekommen. Ich muss also ein bißchen kreativ werden, wenn ich all meinen Kram, den ich so ansammel, hier unterbringen möchte!
Sowohl mein Mitbewohner als auch ich lesen viel. Und wir benötigen viele Bücher für unsere Studien. Wir haben schon einiges in Kartons auf dem Dachboden verstaut (der auch immer voller wird…), aber es ist immer noch einiges, was wir hier in der Wohnung unterbringen müssen! Zum Glück leben wir in einem älteren Gebäude (ich hatte hier schon mal was dazu erwähnt), was zur Folge hat, dass wir etwas höhere Decken als üblich haben. Wenn wir also nicht in die Breite ausbauen können… wir können es in die Höhe!

We (my stepfather……) sawed some simple, cheap boards from the DIY store and after that we (my mom……) painted them in “my” color – RAL 1015. Good thing, that my parents use this color as well a lot at their home, so she had it on hand. Next time, my parents visited me, they brought all the boards with them and we (really we!) got to work.
We laid the boards on top of the door frames – and realized the doors in my apartment are incredibly crooked! On one side the boards were lying flat on top of them, on another side, there were some space between board and door… So we adjusted and aligned the boards as good as possible and fixed them on the wall and on the doors!

Wir (gut, mein Stiefvater……) hat ein paar einfache schlichte Bretter aus dem Baumarkt zurecht gesägt und wir (meine Mutter……) hat sie anschließend in “meiner” Farbe gestrichen – RAL 1015! Sehr praktisch, dass meine Eltern diese Farbe ebenfalls viel zu Hause nutzen, sodass sie die Farbe ohnehin da hatte. Beim nächsten Mal, als meine Eltern mich besuchten, haben sie all die Bretter mitgebracht und wir (dieses Mal wirklich wir!) gingen an die Arbeit.
Wir haben die Bretter über die Türrahmen gelegt – und zunächst festgestellt, dass auch die Türen in dieser Wohnung unglaublich krumm und schief sind! Auf der einen Seite lagen die Bretter auf, während auf der anderen Seite ein ordentlicher Abstand zwischen Brett und Rahmen war… Wir haben die Bretter bestmöglichst ausgerichtet und sie an Wand und den Türrahmen befestigt.

Because I wanted to store as well some ring binders, which are deeper than the boards, I attached later a second, smaller board in front of the first one. (see pictures…)

Weil ich auch Aktenordner unterbringen wollte, habe ich später noch vor eines der Bretter, an der kurzen Wand, ein weiteres angebracht, sodass mehr Tiefe da ist und die Ordner auch auf’s Regal passen.

Of curse it’s all far from a perfect solution and you can see all the gaps… But it’s working. And that’s what’s counting here in our little apartment with limited space!

Natürlich ist diese Konstruktion weit weg von perfekt, man sieht überall die Zwischenräume und Kanten zwischen den einzelnen Brettern… Aber es funktioniert und hilft! Und das ist in dieser kleinen Wohnung, mit so wenig Platz nun einfach mal das, was zählt!

Do you have some more tips for me how I can store even more stuff in this tiny hallway? Or organize all the stuff better? I appreciate every tip, as I’m already running out of space again… I have two stacks of books next to my bed already!

Hat sonst noch jemand Tips oder kreative Lösungen, wie man mehr Kram im winzigsten Flur unterbekommt? Ich bin für jeden Vorschlag offen, denn ich hab schon wieder zwei Stapel Bücher neben dem Bett, die irgendwo hin müssen!
